In today’s information-driven world, technology, and data have become the primary fuel for growth and informed decision-making on the social, political, and economic fronts. This growing importance of data has resulted in a growing need for professionals who can manipulate data and generate insights for real-time decision-making. The Proposed Hekima University School of Data Science will respond to this growing demand by preparing well-trained data scientists who are ethical, innovative, and capable of using data to develop solutions for their communities and the world. The preparation of data scientists will be achieved through the use of the Ignatian Pedagogy https://cndls.georgetown.edu/ignatian-pedagogy/ which has a proven track record in preparing students. The programs will be attuned to transferring knowledge through the experiential learning model with a strong connection to industry for a realistic practical experience.

  • To train students for careers and advanced studies in a wide range of applied computer science, engineering, business, and bio- technology
  • To train students in the ethics of collecting, handling and utilizing data

Prospective students seeking admission into the proposed Hekima University School of Data Science will have to meet the following qualifications

  • A Kenya certificate of secondary education (KCSE) mean grade of C+ or its equivalent from a recognized institution
  • A diploma from a recognized institution
  • The applicant must have a strong background in Mathematics, Computer science.

The school of Data Science curriculum provides a broad range of academic courses and practical tools designed to develop students as they advance in their careers as Data Scientists with in- tegrity and skills to competently research, design and implement efficient, data-driven solutions for real world problems.

Classes will be taught using the flipped classroom model where scholars learn in and outside classroom using blended learning, physical and online methods. This will enable personalized learning. Experiential- entrepreneurial learning model will be adopted to ensure hands on skills through collaborations with the industry and apprenticeship programs in the innovation hubs

Graduates will have the advantage of choosing to develop their careers through employment or entrepreneurship. Regardless of the path a graduand chooses, he/ she can develop their careers in many sectors; including areas of E-banking, renewable energy, software engineering, Artificial intelligence, and autonomous mobility Researchers, IT Specialists, data analysts, System Analysts, Technical Consultant, Web developer, busi- ness analyst among many others.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science program is designed to train world-class data scientists who are ethical and are able to produce and maintain data-related technologies and solutions for the digital era and beyond.
